"Powerful theater is not about lies, lying, pretending, or subterfuge, at all. It’s about revealing truth, a deeper human truth, that must often be told through a representation of the inauthentic actions, or attempts at hiding the truth by many; powerful, impactful, deeply significant theater reveals a deeper human truth, both an individual truth, and that of all human people, a truth often so elusive, often so painful that we, at times, think we might not ever get even a glimpse of it, a truth we might not even want to get a glimpse of, lest we feel the fullest breadth of its terror. To “act” is to “fool” human people into seeing a truth that they might not have otherwise seen."
